Allow me to present to you the Crossing the Streams Contest. How many of you are fans of the Darksiders series of games?

Set millennia before either of these games, Darksiders: The Abomination Vault is the first novel to explore the past activities and development of the Four Horsemen (only some of whom even vaguely resemble anything Biblical), servants of the Charred Council and protectors of the Balance between Heaven and Hell, Good and Evil. You can find out a little more about it over at the official announcement.

This book was an absolute blast to write. It’s easily the most cinematic/action-oriented of my books thus far, and I’ve tried to make sure it’s accessible even to people who aren’t familiar with the games. I really hope you guys have as much fun with this as I did.

Although it’s a bit early, Thief’s Covenant is now available from some online vendors. If you’ve been waiting to get this one, wait no more. Links to the major online sellers can be found on the book’s own page.

False Covenant–the second Widdershins adventure and sequel to the forthcoming Thief’s Covenant–is starting to show up for preorders. You can find it at Amazon and Barnes & Noble now, and it’ll shortly be at other vendors as well.

(I find it hysterical that Blanvalet commissioned an entirely new cover for The Conqueror’s Shadow, but went with an only slightly modified version of the leather-clad posterior-focused shot from the original of The Warlord’s Legacy.)

JABberwocky represents an enormous number of truly talented authors, and I’m absolutely thrilled to count myself among them. The bad news is, their fifth issue is delayed until next July. The good news is that, when it comes out, it will include a story written by the very author whose words you are now reading.

“In Deepest Silence” is one of my forays into semi-Lovecraftian territory, but I’ve done something that I like to think includes a new (or at least not uncommon) addition to that particular sub-genre. I’m indebted to the folks at Shock Totem, and delighted they enjoyed the story as much as they did.

I should also say that “In Deepest Silence is a minor milestone for me. It’s not my first published short story by any means–but it is my first published short story to go through a traditional submission/slush pile scenario. All my others to date have been either assigned to me (such as with RPG-related stories) or appeared in anthologies to which I was invited.

Yes, it seems like a stretch to call that a “milestone,” but I think other writers will understand why that feels like a big deal. (Or not. Maybe I’m just that crazy.)

Also, while I can’t say what it is yet, you folks might be interested in knowing that I’m currently in the midst of working on another tie-in novel–and it’s not for any of the properties I’ve ever worked on before. Stay tuned for more annoyingly cryptic announcements soon.

First and foremost, congratulations to my contest winners: Alec Austin, Fobok, Richard Auffrey, and Shane Noble. (And again, thanks so much to everyone who entered.) Guys, I’m afraid I haven’t been able to get your books in the mail yet–schedules appear to be things that happen to other people, not me –but I should have by the end of the week. You’ll be glad to know that, unless I’m misremembering, everyone got their first choice. (Obviously, if you asked for a book that’s not out yet, it won’t be in the mail by the end of the week.)

October 20th addendum: All the books, except those that haven’t been released yet, went in the mail today. If you haven’t received your books within two weeks (or four, for international), shoot me an e-mail.

Second, the web site SF Signal has a regular feature called “Mind Meld,” in which they ask a bunch of authors a question about genre. Finally, Broken Time Blues–the anthology of speculative fiction set in the 1920s, and including my short story “The Purloined Ledger”–is now available on Kindle. And it’s really inexpensive, too. You’re missing out if you don’t get it. Seriously, I’m getting a hard copy because I’m one of the contributing authors, and I still bought it on Kindle, too.
